Senior Associate, Student Engagement

(He/him/él)

In his role as senior associate of student engagement for Today’s Students Coalition (TSC), Cristian brings a strong interdisciplinary background in higher education, policy analysis, and student-centered program development. He specializes in translating on-the-ground student experiences across diverse learner populations into meaningful advocacy and policy insights. By elevating student voices and stories, he works to strengthen engagement practices at the institutional, state, and federal levels.

Cristian’s work spans campus-based initiatives, national policy organizations, and equity-driven research. Before joining TSC, he served as a graduate assistant supporting Cal Poly’s Basic Needs Initiative and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) efforts. His experience also includes policy roles with UnidosUS, New America, and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA). As a former TSC Student Ambassador Fellow and a FIERCE Fellow with The Education Trust–West, he has worked directly with policymakers, researchers, and advocates to highlight the lived realities of students navigating higher education systems.

Cristian has his bachelor’s in child development from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and is working toward his master’s degree in higher education counseling and student affairs with the University.

Cristian is a first-generation, Mexican-American professional from California’s Central Valley. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with loved ones, listening to music, and trying new coffee shops.
