WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 24, 2018) — Today, Julie Peller, executive director of Higher Learning Advocates, released an initial statement responding to the Aim Higher Act, a bill to reauthorize the Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA) introduced by Ranking Member Bobby Scott (D-Va.) of the U.S. House Committee on Education & the Workforce.
“Today’s students need a system of higher education that is more affordable, higher-quality, and built to prepare them for success in the workforce. The introduction of the Aim Higher Act continues the vital conversation around improving affordability, access and completion. The bill raises important issues, but still requires important modifications to update federal student aid policies for the realities today’s students face.”
“We look forward to continuing to working with House and Senate leaders toward new HEA legislation that upgrades quality, strengthens affordability, and promotes the more accountable and equitable system of higher education that today’s students deserve.”
